Groanings Too Deep for Words

26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:26-28

I had a new prayer experience today.

My Bible study group has a prayer list. We pray for those who’ve asked for prayers.

Today there were several new additions to our prayer list. Each time I receive a new addition I stop and pray for the person in need.

But today a new thing happened. Each time I stopped to pray, an additional prayer was inserted directly into my heart, to pray for something very specific for a friend who hadn’t asked for my prayers.

With my head I never would have imagined that this friend would need the prayer that kept appearing in my heart. But this wasn’t a head thing.

Of course I prayed the intercessory prayer that was placed directly in my heart.

I’ve had the Holy Spirit speak to me before, but never in this way.

God is awesome.
