How I’d Like to Study the Bible

I feel like I want to study the Bible like this:

  • [Bible Passage]
  • What does it say?
  • What does it mean?
    • Here’s how I (the speaker) understand it
    • Optional Section:
    • Here are some ways that others understand it
      • 1 (Best, most favorable exposition of other view #1)
      • 2 (Best, most favorable exposition of other view #2)
      • 3 (Best, most favorable exposition of other view #3)
      • etc.,
    • End Of Optional Section
    • Here’s why I (the speaker) or we (the organization) understand it the way I/we do
    • What do you (the listener/reader) think, and why?

Is this such a bad way to want to study the Bible? I really don’t like studying the Bible like this:

  • [Bible Passage]
  • What does it say?
  • What does it mean?
    • Here’s how I (the speaker) understand it: (My Interpretation)
    • Optional Section
      • 1 (Some dumb, ignorant, sinful people believe obviously wrong interpretation #1)
      • 2 (Some dumb, ignorant, sinful people believe obviously wrong interpretation #2)
      • 3 (Some dumb, ignorant, sinful people believe obviously wrong interpretation #3)
  • So obviously the only right way to understand it is (My Interpretation)

I don’t think that is what “Faith” is supposed to mean.

“Faith” as I understand it is supposed to be Faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior who died for our sins and was resurrected, not Faith that any particular Pastor (or denomination) or Website or Sermon is telling you pure truth which you shouldn’t question.
