Not God’s Mistake.

“You are exactly what God had in mind when God created you!”

That was the introductory devotional in a Bible reading plan I’m following.

It was actually a mind-blowing thought for someone who’s always been somewhat of a misfit.

I mean … if I believe that God is the author and the creator of Everything — and I do believe that — then how could I believe that I’m a defective piece of the puzzle? After all, God created me too, and He doesn’t make mistakes.

God created you too – and He doesn’t make mistakes!

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:10

My grandfather, from whom I’m pretty sure I got my social misfit tendencies (!) used to say that he wouldn’t want to be a member of any group that would actually want him as a member.

But think about it: if you fit perfectly in this flawed and imperfect world, aren’t you a little worried about that?

Jesus was an outsider — a “misfit” in his own society.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.  If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.
