Is anger a sin?
Jesus was without sin but Jesus did get angry.
And [Jesus] looked around at [the Pharisees who were trying to entrap him] with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.
Mark 3:5 (emphasis & paraphrases my own)
So not all anger is sin because Jesus was without sin, and Jesus was angry.
And Jesus did heal the man’s withered hand even though he was angry about the surrounding circumstances.
I might be wrong about this. I’m certainly no Bible expert or theologian. But it looks to me like Jesus did get angry about some people’s actions, but maybe not at the people who were doing the actions.
It’s like telling a child, “I love you but I don’t like your behavior,” something I’ve said many times.
I hope that’s what God wants of me, because it is hard for me to imagine never being angry about even the most egregious actions of people.
Like injustice for example. Injustice makes me angry, and I really hope God doesn’t want me not to be angry about injustice.
Wouldn’t Jesus have been angry about that too?
I think that’s a subject I better do some more praying and Bible studying about.
